We had such a wonderful experience at Cafe Kalawe! From the moment we entered, especially with my dad in a wheelchair, the staff made us feel genuinely welcomed with their warm and friendly service. They made sure my dad was seated well enough to be able to enjoy his meal. I dont usually expect that everywhere we go, but we really felt the aloha spirit here. The food was absolutely amazing—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Their banana cream pie was so good that my brother ordered 2 for himself, which prompted me to order one. Every bite was a reminder of why we’ll definitely be coming back. It’s not just a place to eat, it’s a place to enjoy great hospitality and good vibes. Highly recommend to anyone looking for delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere! P.s. I got the short ribs, my brother got the steak, and my dad had pork chops. Each of us swore we had the best plate!

Cafe Kalawe was honestly a surprise stop for us after doing a quick Google search in the area, and THANK YOU to the other reviewers because we felt confident picking this spot with so many other options in Hawaii. First, parking is tight cause it fills up, so just be prepared for that and don’t forget to pay. Also, there’s a back entrance where you can grab merch. We ended up getting shirts on the way out and love them. Now for the important part: this place is WORTH. THE. HYPE. Period. We got the loco moco and the moku moco and I genuinely could not stop talking about it afterward. Corned beef, spam, burger patties, gravy, fried eggs, fried rice… on paper it sounds amazing, but somehow it still undersells how good it actually is. The food feels like it was made just for me and all the comfort of family and the kitchen table. Also, the plates coming out around us had me borderline rude staring and wishing I could order everything. One thing I really appreciated was the size options. Offering mini and regular plates is SO considerate because not everyone wants the same portion size, especially while traveling. Absolutely loved this place and would go out of my way to come back on another trip to the island. Huge fan of the food, the vibe, and the merch.

The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was filled with true aloha. My whole family genuinely enjoyed everything, from the food to the welcoming environment. The customer service was amazing and made the experience even better. Definitely worth the drive from the west side, and we’ll absolutely be coming back again. Much mahalos to everyone at the cafe for the hospitality and great experience. Also my daughter said the garlic shrimp Aloha 🤙🏽

We visited Cafe Kalawe while vacationing in Oahu from Texas, and it quickly became one of our favorite spots on the island. We loved it so much that we went back multiple times during our trip! The food was absolutely amazing—everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. The fruit bowls were especially outstanding, packed with incredibly fresh fruit and beautifully presented. Their coffee was also fantastic—rich, smooth, and the perfect way to start the day. What really made the experience memorable was the phenomenal service. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and genuinely made us feel appreciated every time we visited. It's rare to find a place that consistently delivers both excellent food and exceptional hospitality, but Cafe Kalawe does exactly that. If you're visiting Oahu or lucky enough to live nearby, Cafe Kalawe is a must-visit. We can't wait to come back on our next trip to Hawaii!

A very nice hole in the wall restaurant where Zippys used to be. We walked in and got seated right away. Unfortunately a lot of their menu options were no longer available for the day, but we decided to get our second favorite choices. The kalbi short ribs were nice seasoned and the misoyakk butterfish was also cooked really well. The chicken katsu felt a bit too fried or really crunchy for my personal taste but overall a great food and good price for the amount of food you get.
