My son has been attending Le’ahi Swim School for several years and has remained at the same level with very little measurable progress. When I asked a staff member about his progress, I was told that additional practice outside of lessons was needed. However, we have consistently taken him to practice every week, so I found that response disappointing. As a parent who regularly watches lessons, I often noticed instructors allowing incorrect form to continue without correction. There were also times when my son was not following instructions properly, and I felt there was limited feedback or guidance to help him improve. I understand that every child progresses at a different pace, but I expected more individualized coaching and communication regarding what specific skills he needed to work on. Instead, I left feeling that the lack of progress was being attributed entirely to us as parents. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet our expectations, and we have decided to pursue private swim lessons elsewhere. My son spent almost two years in the Advanced Beginner I level with very little noticeable progress. When I raised my concerns, I was told that some children stay in the same level even longer. Rather than addressing the specific reasons my son was not advancing, I felt the concern was dismissed.

A very mixed bag, if you get coach Kua it is great and he is a 5+ star instructor. Sadly he is 1 person and in high demand. All of the other instructors are not worth coming here for. This will be our last lesson enrolling (have been coming here for 2+ years).

This program is a great starting point for little ones. The classes are fun, low-pressure, and help kids become comfortable in the water without stress or fear. However, my main concern was the lack of emphasis on skill progression. While the focus on fun is wonderful, it often came at the expense of structured learning. Despite never missing a class for two full years, my children had not much progress and were unable to swim freestyle. I felt the school intentionally keep students in the same level as long as they can. After switching to another school, my children were able to swim 50 meters freestyle within just few weeks. While we appreciated the gentle introduction to the water, I wish there had been more focus on helping the kids advance.

This swim school is located in a neighborhood in Pearl City. The pool itself is clean with plenty of seating for family. However the only parking is street parking and the bathrooms are the only place to change. The bathrooms are standard outdoor public facilities so they can get a little gross. The classes are broken down into groups based on swimming comfort and skill level. There were ten 30-minute classes for the beginning level session we signed up for. $16 average for a half hour session at normal price ($160 total). We got a military discount and paid $110 total for all ten classes. The main reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the swimming sessions run back to back with each other. So at 4:55 all the children for one class get out of the pool and the 5pm class gets in right at 5pm. When it hits 5:25pm then the class ends and the kids must exit the pool for the next class. Because of this, the classes felt really rushed and I did not feel like my daughter got the most out of the session as she could have. If there is a misbehaving child or a child that is scared of a task, then the whole class seems to pause so the teacher(s) can address the situation. I really like the staff and the theme of how the swim school is run but the school should offer longer classes with transition periods in between each session. I am not signing up for more classes. I decided to switch to the YMCA swim classes. They offer hour-long classes for preschoolers for about the same price per time, plus they have open swim times for practicing.

Leahi Swim School is AMAZING! My son was nervous about the water at first, but after just two classes, he was diving in with so much confidence! Now, he’s always asking to go back because he has such a blast. The instructors are super friendly and great with kids—they make learning fun with creative moves like “pizza” and “froggy legs,” which my son still talks about. The management is awesome too—great communication and always willing to help. Everything about this place is top-notch. If you’re looking for a fun, welcoming swim school that actually gets kids excited about swimming, Leahi Swim School is the way to go!
