I had the privilege of visiting the Library of the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella together with the Istituto Italiano dei Castelli, led by a passionate and highly knowledgeable professor, whom I thank for this truly memorable visit. We find ourselves before one of the most extraordinary places of European musical culture. The library houses hundreds of thousands of scores and musical prints, thousands of opera librettos, and precious manuscripts, including works by the great composers of the Neapolitan and Italian schools, such as Pergolesi, Paisiello, Cimarosa, Bellini, Donizetti, and Rossini. But the true charm of this place lies not only in its collections, which are extremely rare and priceless. It's in the atmosphere. Here, music isn't locked away in a glass case: it lives. The corridors are filled with students, instrument rehearsals, and the excitement of those studying and building their musical future. It's one of those places where you clearly sense that culture isn't just a thing of the past: it continues to be born every day. Walking through these rooms means finding yourself at a meeting point between centuries of history and new generations of musicians. A heritage that belongs not only to Naples, but to the history of music worldwide. I truly hope the State continues to invest in the restoration and enhancement of this extraordinary place, because places like this are more than just libraries: they are true cathedrals of memory and creativity. In the heart of Naples' historic center, stands the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory of Music, the oldest conservatory in Europe, born from the merger of the first conservatories established in Naples, including Santa Maria di Loreto, founded in 1537. The facility moved to its current location, the convent of the Celestine Friars, in the early 1800s. Visiting the building reveals a rich history, from that of the Capuchin Friars' convent (the catacombs still exist in the basement) and the adjacent, magnificent church, to the musical legacy of the great musicians who studied and frequented these places, as well as the library, which houses books, scores, works, paintings, and musical instruments, including the only surviving Stradivarius harp. Visiting this gem of our artistic and musical heritage enriches one's knowledge and benefits the soul.

The San Pietro a Majella Conservatory is one of the most prestigious and oldest institutions in the city of Naples. We had the opportunity to attend a concert by the conservatory students, which normally takes place on Friday afternoons, with admission on a first-come, first-served basis. It was a wonderful experience; aside from the students' talent, the concert was held in the Concert Hall, which, besides being splendid, has perfect acoustics.
