This was my second time at the Trappe door, and both visits were top-notch. The atmosphere is truly unique, being underground with ornate pillars and beams all around. Service was fantastic both at the bar and at a table, with friendly, knowledgeable, staff. Most importantly, the food is outstanding. The mussels make for a fantastic appetizer if eating with a group. They're tender and sit in a delicious broth. The Steak Frittes and Shot Rib entrees are both cooked to perfection - Fork tender and perfectly seasoned. Even the brussel sprout side for the short ribs were commented on by everyone at the table. While the desserts all sound amazing, we were all too full to partake on both visits.
If you like Belgian beers, this is your spot!! I've been to Belgium and Trappe Door is as close as I've experienced in the states. The service from Miriam on Sat (5/30) was exceptional; she noticed that a member of our party was celebrating a birthday and brought out a cake with a candle without anyone asking. Beyond the spectacular selection of Belgian beers, they also have a great Moscow Mule. Unfortunately, the food is a bit lacking; my fish and chips were very salty, and the fries were soft and mushy. It's pricey for the quality and not very good. I'll still be back, but likely just for drinks and an appetizer.
First time at the Trappe Door. I like the underground feel and how cozy it felt. I'm not a fan of bright lights and loud music, so this definitely hit the spot. The music was good, all stuff i jam to on a regular basis and it was at good volume. I like the setup they have and the cool corner chairs. If they played medieval time music, I feel like I was in skyrim at an inn. The staff was really nice and welcoming. The young lady at the hostess stand was super sweet. Our server was around to check on us a respectable amount of times. The food was delicious, like I had to stop and think about life when I took a bite of it. I had my husband try some of mine just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I recommend the Cherry and Sausages. My husband had the Salmon which he really enjoyed. The menu is very small but not in a bad way, they do have a separate drink menu and a draft selection. Our server did let us know ahead of time certain stuff wasn't available which was fine with us, we don't drink much. We also had the Chef's board as an appetizer and that was delicious as well. Overall the experience was great, really glad we decided to try something outside of our normal on date nights and we will be back again.
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner at Trappe Door recently, and it’s easily one of our favorite spots in the city. The atmosphere is unique and cozy, making it the perfect place for a relaxed but high-quality meal. We started with the French fries and their signature mayonnaises, and they were absolutely delicious—perfectly crispy and clearly a step above your average appetizer. For the main course, my wife had the short ribs, which were tender and flavorful, and I went with the Seafood Waterzooi. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and beautifully prepared. If you are a fan of Belgian beer, you will be in heaven here. They have an awesome beer list and a great selection of other drinks as well. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, helping us navigate the menu and providing excellent recommendations throughout the night. Between the incredible food and the top-notch service, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We’ll definitely be back soon!
I live in Atlanta and I've been meaning to check this place out for some time. I took my husband here for his birthday and I'm so glad we were finally able to make it! The atmosphere was great, the restaurant was dimly lit in a basement setup which was very intimate and perfect for a date- night feel. Our waiter was very informative and attentive, the drinks were very good and the food was some of the best that I've had in South Carolina! I got the steak fries and I enjoyed every bite. I'll absolutely be back here to try the other menu items!
